Counseling Methods

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

This is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy that utilizes back and forth eye movements to help clients address common problems such as depression, anxiety, phobias and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

It is not the same as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), however they both use eye movements. In experiencing ART, you may find that you connect pieces of information that are already stored in your memory to help you resolve your issues.

The brain, while focused on a problem and concurrently using eye movements, makes new connections with a person’s strengths and problem solving abilities.

Brainspotting

A powerful brain-based therapy that helps individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences, emotional distress, and unresolved issues. Developed by Dr. David Grand, Brainspotting is based on the idea that where you look affects how you feel.

During a session, a trained therapist helps clients identify “brainspots,” which are eye positions that correlate with stored trauma or emotional distress. By maintaining focus on these spots while engaging in deep mindfulness, clients can access and release unresolved emotions at a deep neurological level. Tapping into the brain’s natural ability to heal, bypassing the logical mind and accessing the limbic system where trauma is stored.

Brainspotting is effective for trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, chronic pain and performance enhancement. It is also helpful if you are unaware of what is making you feel stuck and want to get unstuck.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

An evidence-based treatment model designed to assist with overcoming the negative effects of a traumatic experience. The main application is the treatment of posttraumatic stress and the goal is to help survivors of trauma.

The core components of TF-CBT include; psychoeducation, relaxation, affective regulation, cognitive processing, trauma narrative, mastery of trauma reminders, and enhancing future safety.
